Michigan Trust Administration Responsibilities

Michigan trust administration generally begins with identifying the controlling trust terms, confirming the successor trustee’s authority, and determining which assets the trust holds. A revocable trust, which the creator could change or cancel during life, typically becomes irrevocable upon the creator’s death. The named successor trustee then assumes fiduciary responsibility for managing, protecting, and distributing trust assets according to the document.

A fiduciary duty is a legal obligation to act in the interests of the trust and its beneficiaries while following the trust terms and Michigan law.
